Entitled to what?

Entitled to what? What do you think it is that you deserve? I can answer that question easily, you are entitled to nothing. That’s right, nothing, you don’t own anything, nothing is yours and no one owes you shit. If for some unknown reason you believe this to be false I have some hard news for you, you’re wrong. Life is what it is, you can’t expect anything better or anything worse. It doesn’t matter if you work your entire life for something that doesn’t mean that you will have some break through and receive your well “deserved” reward at the end, that’s just not how it works.

The whole idea portrayed in the definition of the word “deserve” is absurd on its face. To say that you deserve something is indicative of two things. You believe that you lack something and that whatever that something is, by some moral duty of life should be yours. Well, I can tell you two things to respond to those two items. If you don’t have it, then you have no link to it and more importantly life owes you nothing.

My father is probably one of the best examples of this. If anyone had a morally correct reason to complain, I would say he does. But he never complains, he takes his lumps and keeps on doing what makes him happy, helping others. He recently lost his job after 33 years of faithful service to the same company. They fired him without cause, but I’ve never once heard him say that he deserved better or that they owed him anything. Life is.

We often get caught up in this idea of entitlement. We claim ownership or rights, but we have nothing to back that up. Just a weak sense of entitlement. Well, if there is anything that is really wrong, and wrong with this country it is this sense of entitlement and I dare say it plagues this land.

We think we own this country and we forget that it was “owned” by two or three, maybe four different civilizations before us. We feel we have the right to deny people access or benefits and in the same turn accept those benefits for ourselves and we refuse to recognize the hypocrisy. We feel it is important to protect our way of life but choose to constantly harass all those who are desperately trying to protect theirs.

Entitled to what? As I often like to say, figure your shit out. Life is. It owes you nothing. You do not own anything. And your rights are no more yours than they are the next person’s.

If you understood any of that, there is hope for your sanity, your happiness and this world. If you didn’t get it, you’re wrong. Simple. Life is.
