The Alliance just got done riding, which is a good thing, because that is what we do best.
My initial response to the Mehr’s invite was a negative until he tempted me with the Ice House. I had just finished riding the Zen on the singlespeed with my class and was a little wary of doing another pedal, but who can pass up Ice House? We were a little concerned that things may be a bit muddy. It was damp but the trail was perfect. I also encountered my first wreck and did it on the part of the trail I know best, the road cut. I went a little wide on the turn and dropped my front wheel right into a dip and over the bars I went. First wreck on the Enduro, I’ll have to check for scratches tomorrow.
I was worried about the cold so I filled the flask with a little “warm me up” juice. I was warm when we got to the top. The first 10 minutes or so were a little sketchy. I may have had one too many sips.
It was pretty awesome to be riding down a kick ass trail, at night, in December and not be frozen. We contemplated how much the gods of mountain biking had smiled upon us as we bombed down the mesa. Let’s all bow our heads in solemn reverence for what we have been given…
Moving on to other news.
As I mentioned my mountain bike class rode the Zen today. This is the first time I have taken any students up this trail. I always suspected they would hate it for its difficulty and aerobic challenge. I gave the class the choice of the Zen or the Rim Job and they voted for the Zen. I had six students head up the mesa. Four finished. Two ended up turning around just after the steep 30 yard up through the rocks. I was quite surprised that the four who finished absolutely loved the trail. They walked a lot of stuff. We had casualties but I have never heard them chatter and laugh and discuss what they were riding like they did today. It was like a good ol’ time.
Below is the evidence.
Sorry. I guess I didn’t do a great job of documenting our ride.
In other news.
I have been quite enjoying my new books. The Russian Revolution is fascinating and seeing it from two different perspectives is also quite insightful. I have been eating up Kropotkin’s words. I will be done soon if anyone is interested.
Speaking of words. I ran across a little article today that you may or may not find interesting. Apparently one Mr. Beck, has been touting that a certain town in Ohio had los everything but has refused to receive any federal money to help their situation. When Politifact asked to be given Beck’s sources, they received no response. They did some digging and found that not only had the received money, they had actively gone out to find people in need of the money and helped them get it. You can read the whole article here. Oops!
I also ran onto this song today that I have been enjoying for the last little bit.
With that I bid you all good night.
