Night riding has come back into my blood and I’m lovin’ it.
The Mehr mobile drove us, Spenser, Shelby, Lee and myself, to the top of Ice House for another run in the dark. That trail is fun. With the Champ in the lead, all there is left to do is let go of the brakes and mimic whatever he happens to be doing at the time. It’s best not to try and see the trail.
For me, it is these times of just staying on it that define night riding. To go as fast as you can, with no visual knowledge of what’s more than thirty feet in front of you at any given time is exilirating. The focus that you naturally begin to recognize when the trail turns technical and downward and you find that you are incapable of thinking of anything else other than rock, tree, staaaaaay on the trail, weeeee, rock, shit, turnnnnn… It’s a moment of compete focus, of absolute clarity and I love it every time it happens. And it happens often when riding the Ice House in the darkness.
It’s also why I love rock gardens…
Speaking of rock gardens, the road cut that marks the end of the Ice House trail is one big, fast rock garden and it always leaves a smile on my face.
Looking forward, we will be riding Prospector tomorrow around 7:30ish. Bring your lights, your bike and your game face cuz we are anything but serious. If you need a more exact starting time, shoot me an email or call the shop.
To end this, let’s just remember that no matter how good you ride, you can’t ride like Danny.
Out.
He listed her age as 54 when she’s actually 53.
