Our customer had some nipples pulling out of their Ksyrium rear wheel after about a year of use. We sent it back to Mavic for warranty eval/repair. As we know they have some slow turn arounds, we were not surprised that it took four weeks for this to come back to us. Once out of the box and tire installed, it was obvious that things weren’t quite right. The spoke tension was way off, especially around the seam of the rim. Upon closer inspection, the rim seam was manufactured wrong. It’s pretty normal to see some hop at the seam of a rim, but this was way beyond a little hop.
Mavic’s response was to have the wheel sent back, once again, for them to check it out. Even after my protests that the customer had already been without the wheel for four weeks, they said it was the only way. So the wheel went back. Five weeks and counting for a rim replacement.
Way to go Mavic!
Jeebus, Dude. I want to like your cynicism, but it’s clearly pointed in the wrong direction. It sounds like you need to get out of the business of bikes and go have some fun. I agree that things aren’t perfect, but they are far from as bad as you’re making them out to be. About Mavic: I’ve never waited more than a week for them to send a wheel back. Granted, I’m one state away, but I sent one out first thing on a Wed. and had it back Fri. morning. In late July! I’ve not once been disappointed with their work/products.
Cheers.
