It’s been a stretch since I posted. My apologies to all of you who wait patiently for my knowledge to be transmitted to you via the intrawebs. I’m not sure why, so I won’t try and bore you with the reasons.
A lot has happened since my last post. Most notably I was attacked by a Yucca.
After taking my class on a foray through the worst trail damage known to man (aka Bear Claw Poppy Trail), I thought it would be enjoyable to take the cross bike out and hit the Prospector for a few more miles. I’ve done this several times and have always enjoyed myself. The skinnier tires make the trail just that much faster. I started out and noticed almost immediately that my hands had become bruised form the BCPT ride which made it difficult to hold on the hoods where I can reach the brakes. I opted to continue and just try not to use the brakes.
I got to the steps, dismounted and walked my skinny tired off road love machine to the bottom of the rock and the climbed aboard to finish out my ride. I grabbed the bars, not the hoods, and headed down the hill. The skinny knobs were fast and I was soon in need of scrubbing some speed only to realize my brakes were out of reach. I quickly attempted to reposition my hands to grab the brakes. Of course, as soon as I tried to move my hands I hit some rocks which left the brakes still out of reach and my speed reaching out of control speeds for the upcoming sharp turn. I finally got my hands to the brakes, but nay, it was too late. I pitched down through a gutter and then was pitched over my bars and through a Yucca plant.
I got back up chuckling and examined the damage. There was some pain in my left arm. I found a Yucca spline still injected in my skin and blood was flowing from another. I pulled out the one left in and noticed my lower left shoulder was a little sore as well. I later found the third hole in my shoulder. My bike wasn’t destroyed but the right hood was rolled down quite a ways making the rear brake a bit tight. I fiddle with it and got the brake loose enough to ride. I brushed off the dirt and finished some of the trail before deciding to turn around.
In its defense, the Yucca was just protecting itself…
That’s enough of that.
The Alliance also got out two weekends ago and rode the Goose. Big D, Ryan Bradshaw, Baby Face and myself all loaded up and headed out. We had a good ride. BF even said he would ride it again which is good since it was his first time on the mesa. We were able to watch some of the Red Bull Rampage from the North Rim. Watching from above and that far away put things in a little different light.
Danny also did some riding worth noting.
Very nice riding in deed. And yes that first one really is steeper than it looks even though it looks damn steep in the video.
In other SG news, the 6 Hours of Frog Hollow happened last weekend. I would report on how it was only I wasn’t there. I had to work.
Until next time….
Out.
