What a Sunday?
Got out and got some awesomeness done.
After our week of killer weather we are back to 100+ days. With that in mind KB and I headed out at 6:20 with the Goose being our destination. We were riding by 7:30. Part of the reason for the super early start was to get the dogs out, so we had the whole damn pack with us. The dogs were definitely in need of the ride almost as badly as I was. We opted for the traditional south to north loop and threw in the Yellow trail to skip the sand trap. The weather was awesome. I almost wore my long sleeve jersey but knew I would have to take it off in a matter of minutes so left it in the truck.
The early start gave us great views of the surrounding mesas with the sun breaking. The shadows… I don’t think I need to beat this dead horse too much, but half of the allure of Gooseberry Mesa is the views. Of course I didn’t take any pictures cuz that wouldn’t make any sense.
You can see that we rode the entire loop. I’m not sure if it was the lighting but I think the dots need to be repainted and there are some trees that need to be trimmed. I can see a trail work day in the future. It felt good but I was pretty spent by the end of the ride. We had planned to head home, take a nap and do some house things, but some how that just didn’t seem right for me.
BP had been texting me since about 7:45 to let me know that he would be riding Little Creek. It dawned on me that I could meet him and hit Little Creek as well. KB dropped me at the gas station. I grabbed some energy food, Funyons and Mountain Dew. And we headed out to Little Creek to ride with OTE’s Afterbike group. I used to really love riding these group rides but then the appeal faded. Mostly because the ride just takes so long due to the amount of people who are involved. Of course, Little Creek kind of exasperates the problem because you don’t want to lose someone out there. The ride was fun but it was damn hot by the time we were done. We rode out to the bridges and then back through the trees of mystery. I have to admit that after being in the sun as long as I had, I was totally toast. I walked down and up things that I never have before. But it was still a good ride, good times.
We rode almoooost 10 miles in 3 hours and 45 minutes. When we finished the temperature was just under 100 degrees.
Needless to say, with that much sun, my hands look like they are still wearing my gloves.
It’s a little dark but heres video proof of the morning ride.
Good times.
Out.
