Wined and Dined, Frostbike 2010

Well, I’m back from the frozen tundra land. The frost is almost off my butt and my liver has almost recovered. I promised a report, so I shall proceed to report.

Sir Gurr and myself left Thursday morning for Vegas. We then left Vegas. This is notable because it was a miracle that we actually got on the plane. Between parking the car and getting on the plane, the idea of staying in Vegas for the weekend was discussed at least 12.73 times. The 65 degree weather felt good, looked good and in contrast to Minnesota, was heaven.

We arrived in Minneapolis around 5:30, local time. If my memory, aided by Facebook, serves, it was 29 degrees. The directions that Gurr had received for the shuttle were 100% wrong. We shivered outside waiting for close to an hour with a huddled mass of bike folk. Then someone called the hotel and got the correct directions. We boarded and were at the hotel by 7:30. That’s when the dining started…

Of course, we were starving and someone had said something about free beer. So we headed down to the “reception.” This consisted of a great taco bar and, you guessed it, free beer. We had a couple of runs at the taco bar, and a few more at the bar. Somehow the money we spent to get into this little festival was an explicit challenge to drink enough beer to come out even.  We did our best, night one count = can’t remember.

Some 12 hours later, we went to breakfast. Again this was provided by the Q. I walked in dazed, barely moving, when I was shanked from behind by no other than I-kitty. Somehow he ended up in Minnesota too. I guess the world is small when you are in a frozen tundra.

The cat himself, I-kitty, what a surprise

The first day of seminars went like most seminars, a lot of sitting, listening, thinking, wishing… Then there was the Euro Sales Group reception. This consisted of a french fry bar and regular bar.

French Fry bar, and yes, plenty of Mayo?!?

You guessed it. That’s all I’m gonna say.

Next day consisted of more seminars, expo, and more seminars. In contrast to the visual overload that is Interbike, Frostbike was a few rows of small booths. This meant more personal service and what seemed to be a more inviting atmosphere.

Yup, it was cold out there

Apparently, we were outside and there was snow...

Next day, more expo, lunch and then grab the plane and head back to the warmth of the south.

Out.
