I have to admit that I find this whole thing hilarious. Never has the fundamental being of an ideology been so fiercely attacked, or at least that is the only logical explanation that I can come up with. Why else would people who are in no way being threatened be so scared? Maybe it’s because they are watching everything they believed to be true come crashing down around them in a way that the only answer is that their beliefs are 100% false.
When I heard about the Obama scare that consisted of the president of the United States addressing elementary schools for 15 minutes to encourage them to stay in school and the backlash that accused him of trying to brainwash our children, I laughed. I honestly couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke, someone poking fun at the ridiculous nature that the health care debate has taken on, but, nay, I was wrong.
I can only assume that parents who think that everything that they have taught their children can be undone in 15 minutes are standing on a sandy foundation. Hell, I would let my children listen to Hitler for 15 minutes. I’m pretty sure my kids would try to eat him. The fact is that in 15 minutes, no harm can be done by listening to someone tell you to stay in school.
What I find even more ridiculous is the fact that the parents who were freaking out were scared of Socialism, but they never made the connection that the public education system is socialism. So they were upset that there children may be subject to an idea that they were benefitting from. Like I said a very sandy foundation. How does the song go? The foolish man built his house upon the sand…
And then I came upon this letter to the editor in the Herald Journal. And I again laughed…
If you consider yourself Christian and still believe that Capitalism is god’s way, I ask you, isn’t greed one of the 7 mortal sins? Then how does a system founded completely on greed fit into your god’s equation? It’s called a disconnect. From what you claim to believe and the reality of your state of belief. If you rid the disconnect, take your Christian beliefs to their logical conclusion you will end up with something special. I can guarantee you it won’t be Capitalism or anything that Rush, Hannity or any of those other douche bags would condone.
I’m done, but think about it. Are they really serious with all this shit? Because if they are…
Peace. Love. and Revolution. That is something to fight for.
