This past weekend, KB and I set out for four days of whatever our hearts desired. It had been a while since we went on any kind of vacation, and by a while I mean since July.
We hit up the family deer camp at Posy Lake in Escalante. We enjoyed an evening of cool weather and then a morning of thunder showers with accompanying lightning. It was just as perfect as the mountains could be. Unfortunately, I was unable to talk KB in to staying and riding the Great Western again. So we headed back on the road.
From Escalante we headed over through Capitol Reef towards Moab. When we got to the red rock haven we found more people than we would have liked to seen. We rolled in late and didn’t feel like trying to find a campsite, but all, and I do mean all, the rooms were full. After about an hour of looking, we decided to give the bird to Moab and headed east. Yes, my children to Fruita.
We arrived late and found a room quickly. The next morning we hit up the Kokapelli trailhead for some amazingly fun riding. We rode Mary’s loop to Horsethief and then continued on to Steve’s Loop before hitting the frontage road and making our way back to the trailhead. The above picture is from said ride.
At this point it was too hot for Kathleen. So we headed out found a Breckenridge Pub and had a wonderful beer and lunch. Then found ourselves another room and crashed for the rest of the day, watching t.v. and and letting the legs relax. Next morning we got up semi early, packed up the room and headed to 18 road. We rode Chutes and Ladders, were thoroughly dissappointed and then came home.
Why is it my weekends are always better than yours?!?
