Beers not Gears – SSST Schedule

Let’s go ahead and set the bar nice and low. First off, the Mooseknuckler Cycling Alliance does not condone pedaling any ride where there isn’t time to stop and take pictures or drink a beer. So while there will be racing, that’s not really the point. For us, singlespeeding has never been about ripping the legs off your buddies to prove who has the biggest dick. No, it’s more about giving a middle finger to the jocks and the hyped up marketing that is the mainstream of our sport. After all, there is nothing more rebellious than simplicity.

So let’s keep this as simple as possible.

The Schedule:

1. Meet at the Gooseberry Yurts around 4 PM on Friday the 28th of September.

  • LIT lap will be explained along with rules

2. The LIT will begin at 5 PM on Friday and start close to the Yurts.

  • You will need to bring a six pack of whatever the hell you want to drink.
  • Be prepared to ride 5 1-1.5 mile laps slamming one of your drinks to start and one between each lap and at the end of your last lap.
  • Winner of the LIT will be determined by the Monkey Master.
  • Monkey Master will give points to all who participate.
  • Monkey Master to be announced two weeks prior to event to allow for bribing.

3. Sunset enjoying, socializing and high fiving after LIT.

4. Meet at yurts around 10 AM on Saturday.

  • Course and rules will be laid out.

5. SS Race will begin at 11 AM.

  • Plan on riding between 20 and 30 miles.
  • Points will be assigned based on finishing times.

6. Meet at the yurts around 10 AM on Sunday.

  • Course and rules explained.

7. No Dabs Contest will begin at 11 AM on Sunday.

  • Traditional MCA No Dabs Contest Rules will be applied.
  • We will break into multiple groups as to not overwhelm the trail.

8. Meet at the Yurts at 3 PM.

  • Winners will be announced.
  • High fives will be given.

Lodging

Dispersed camping is available throughout Gooseberry Mesa. There are several established sites close to the Yurts. If you want one of these, you’ll want to show early. There are plenty of other sites around the mesa. We ask that you abide by Leave No Trace ethics. Bathrooms are available at the White Trailhead and at the Gooseberry Trailhead

If camping isn’t your thing, there are plenty of hotels in Springdale, Hurricane and St. George. It takes about an hour to get from downtown St. George to the Yurts.

Rules:

  1. Don’t be a dick. This is pretty straight forward, but at the same time, can’t be emphasized enough.
  2. Stay on the trail and abide by normal trail etiquette.
  3. Practice Leave No Trace ethics. Pack out everything that you bring in. (Read: no gu packets left on the trail.)
  4. Be responsible for yourself.
  5. We are capping the event at 50 riders to keep things simple.
