Useless Banter

I had forgotten about this little punk ballad until the other day. It accompanies my post “Complacent” very well.

I’m not insane, I’m not bummed out
I got no one to blame, nothing to change
I got no evil to fight

One thing’s for sure, I’m all outta angst
Society don’t bother me
And there’s something wrong with that

I’ve been feeling a bit numb as of late. There hasn’t been anything that has fired me up, got me going, or pissed me off for quite a while. And this just after an election. Usually I have some goal or rebellion that I’m working on. For the past eight years especially, I’ve always been trying to remove myself from something, stop impacting or positively influence something else. And now I’ve got nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t given up on those things, they’ve become a part of me. There isn’t any movement or idea that I’ve embraced in the past years that I haven’t fully integrate into my life. And now I’m just here. (more…)

It’s August 31. It’s hot. A tingle starting in my shoulders shoots down my spine and then back up again in an uncontrollable shiver. It’s 100 degrees and I have the cold chills. I’m supposed to be sad, but my forelorn face is nothing more than a fasaud covering the releif that awaits at the end of this drive. I’m headed to the airport. I kiss her. I say I’ll see you later. I turn and walk away. (more…)

Apparently this is a photo from Doug’s last trip to Whistler. He got some great height on that jump but his mechanic obviously didn’t do a good job.

The shops all closed up, Counting Crows is playing on Pandora and once again I’m sitting in the dark finishing my beer and wondering about things. (more…)

As I pointed out a few posts ago, I’m a wrench, bluecollar, hard working mofo since the beginning. No I don’t get off on NASCAR but those bastards are a completely different breed.

One of the things that brings me great satisfaction in life is the quality of work that I aspire to and that I hope I achieve every time. So it also peaks my interest when I see something of quality. The works of art that have been manufactured by the few for those of us who get it.  (more…)

Yes, the day has arrived and the hour is nearing when I will once again be tortured by all things shiny, aluminum and carbon. I will have to sit through hours of sales meetings with representatives telling me that not only is this the best damn thing ever invented but it is a huge improvement over last year’s model, even though the only thing they changed was the color. I will once again see the same things I saw the first time I attended this godawful show some 11 years ago.

It’s a tough job, but somebody, namely me, has to do it.

It’s a drizzly day up here in the Polar North. Things have been rainy as of late, which is a hell of a lot better than snowy. So don’t think I’m complaining. As I already stated I’ve ridden three days this week. Three days more than what I’ve been getting in.

I’m afraid the race tomorrow is going to turn into a mudfest. Danny gave me a call yesterday to see what I thought. Most of the snow is gone but it’s raining today and rained on Wednesday, so things are looking awesome for a full on mud wrestling mountain bike race. I won’t be there for various reasons. One, I have to work. And two, Glen hasn’t been back in. I have a strange feeling I was banned from helping on this one. (more…)
