I bribed a couple local riders with fame and the accompanying fortune to give me an interview about riding fixed. I’m not sure how famous they will become but this is the first of a series of installments called Fixed-gear Heroes. I think we can all agree that this is a trend that is not going away any time soon, especially with the soaring gas prices and everything else prices right along with it. Anyways, I hope you enjoy…
1. What do you ride? Bianchi Pista
2. Why do you ride? I love the thrill of navigating through the city streets and not polluting our lovely earth.
3. How long have you been riding fixed? 1.3 years
4. Does it bother you to see others on fixies? Not at all, I love it when I see people on bikes no matter what kind. One less car!
5. Do you participate in Alley Cat Races? I did until a sweet little article that misrepresented them.
6. Do you feel fixies are superior bicycles? please explain…Not at all, I feel that all bicycles are the same regardless of the type. If you have the superior complex you are a douche sack.
7. Do you ride with brakes? No, I probably should though. That is what makes it fun.
8. What color are your tires? and do they match anything else on your bike? I hate this question. Black and yellow, they match my rims. I am pathetic.
9. How did you start riding fixie? I put one foot on the ground and one foot on the pedal and it was magic from there.
10. Do you just commute fixed or do you get out and do long rides? please describe your rides..I do both. I commute every day and on the Sabbath I try to ride anywhere from 25-35 mile rides. That is not too long but I am trying to increase the mileage.
11. Does your mom or any other relative ride fixed?Negative.
12. Have you ever been hit while riding a bicycle? who’s fault?I have had three really close calls and all three were the motorists fault. Thank God for cat like reflexes.
13. Can you skid? please describe method…Yes. Balls to the stem. Actually I just shift my weight a little and push down on the upstroke. (clips help out)

Is it OK to sue due to any lose of reproductive abilities incurred from attempting your “balls to the stem” method? Or do I just have to live with this pain fameless and pennyless.
