irst it was the Wall Street Journal. Now it’s Newsday. What’s next?
Last week, Rupert Murdoch announced plans to buy Newsday, his third New York newspaper. (Murdoch already owns the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and two television stations in this single community!)
We can put a stop to this runaway media consolidation, but first we need to win a critical vote in the U.S. Senate and we expect a vote any day. To do that, we need your help. (more…)

Well, the Alliance went out without me this afternoon for the first mountain ride of the season. I-dog, Erik, Little Erin and Ryan all hit it up for a great ride, at least from what I hear.
Don’t forget about our Wednesday ride, we will be rocking the road. 5 at Sunrise Cyclery.
I just got off the phone with Neetrith himself and it sounds like Fruita was a good time. We can only hope he chooses to endow us with his photo genius by posting a few pics for our pleasure. Right now I have him working on an urgent project for Cycling Utah. So, once he’s done with that….
Wednesday we will also be having a shindig at the house around 8 to celebrate my lil sister’s graduation and the end of the semester. If you need directions drop me a line.
Declare your sovereignty. Ride a bike.

I bribed a couple local riders with fame and the accompanying fortune to give me an interview about riding fixed. I’m not sure how famous they will become but this is the first of a series of installments called Fixed-gear Heroes. I think we can all agree that this is a trend that is not going away any time soon, especially with the soaring gas prices and everything else prices right along with it. Anyways, I hope you enjoy… (more…)

For those of you who missed out last night, we learned that bike polo is actually a lot of fun. We played a game of two on two. Nobody really kept score but I’m pretty sure I won. There were plenty of close calls and Cole seemed to make up the roles as he went. I gotta say to be good at this goofy game you gotta be able to handle your bike.
We’ll do it again sometime soon. Don’t miss out…
Peace. Love. and Revolution.

Dear all:
Unofficial stuff here. Just wanted to remind everyone that Critical Mass is on Friday the 25th (today). Meet at 5:30 at Sunrise. Hopefully everyone is getting the drill by now.
Here’s a report of last month’s ride for those still skeptical. Before we started out, we had a brief discussion about bicycle safety and special laws applicable to riding on the road. Everyone was in agreement that in order to foster a wholesome relationship between vehicle users and cyclists, there needs to be respect from both sides. This includes bicycles sharing the road with cars. I personally recommended that everyone register their bike with the City of Logan (after doing some research we discovered that it is, in fact, required by law). It’s free, it’s a simple process, and doing so shows the city that there is a core of riders who want to responsibly use the road for transportation. We rode two abreast the entire time, but shrank down to single file on Main St. We had great response from the vehicles on the road. The ride ended at The Pupusaria (a terrific El Salvadorian food joint in the Little Caesars strip mall) where we all partook of some great food. All in all, it was a great time.
Anyway, I hope we can get a good group out tomorrow. It’s the last weekend for CM before school gets out and everyone heads home or off to internships or what not. So let’s make it a good one.
Peace.

I have finally got the ride schedule dialed, at least until I change it again.
Mondays will be our weekly mountain ride. Meet at Sunrise at 5 p.m. We will do a different trail as often as possible. Right now we will be limited to rocking the River Trail and Green Canyon.
Wednesday will be the Alliance road ride. If you don’t know the drill yet, I’ll spell it out one more time, Sunrise at 5 p.m.
Thursday, this is the one I’m excited about. For the first time in the Alliance’s history we will have a women only ride. We will start with a road ride this coming Thursday and then rotate mountain and road every other week. If enough of you ladies get out we will start doing two rides a week. Of course, everyone is invited to all the rides so women aren’t restricted to the women only rides. You can come on Monday and Wednesday if you would like. Sunrise at 5.
Then we have Sunday. We will do either a mountain or road ride depending on the weather and how I feel. Meet at Sunrise at 2 p.m. To find out the plan for any given Sunday email me in advance or call the shop on Saturday, 753.3294.
And don’t forget Bike Polo this Friday at Merlin Olsen at 9 p.m.
Out.

This morning, the Senate Commerce Committee unanimously approved the “resolution of disapproval” we’ve been fighting for.
It’s the first step toward an official congressional “veto” of the Federal Communications Commission’s new rules that gut media ownership limits.
This vote couldn’t have come at a more important moment. Just this week, Rupert Murdoch announced plans to buy his third New York newspaper — Newsday. (Murdoch already owns the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and two television stations in this one media market!)
We can stop this runaway media consolidation by passing the resolution of disapproval in the full House and Senate. To do that, we need your help right now.

Here’s the game plan, if you can call it that…
Meet at Merlin Olsen park sometime around 9 pm this Friday, I will be there at 9.
You will need a device that rolls on two wheels and is powered by a chain, or a belt if you are so inclined. Also required will be a mallet like stick that you can use to hit what may or may not be a croquet ball in the grass. We will romp around on said grass for a while until everyone has broken bones or we are all too tired to continue playing this silly game. Then we will ride some more to an undisclosed location for a shindig of untold proportions.
Out.
