I’m concerned about the critical mass movement here in Logan. This was a fun little event but to be honest I don’t think that it was super effective in anything except pissing people off. This may have been evident when on my ride today out to Mendon I was honked at about 4 times and flipped off at least twice. I’m concerned that cluttering up Main Street could create worse bike/car relations.
I know that riding 2 abreast and on the side of the road is our right, but in the ride we seemed to be always taking up an entire lane.
I think that we have pretty understanding motorists here in Logan. Since moving up her last fall I have never had problems. Most are quick to give me a ton of room on the road as they pass. At intersections they almost always yield to me. I just want to express my concern that more critical masses may lead to worse road rides for me in the summer.
Regards,
Eric

Cars honked and flipped me off before I started Massing. That’s what riding in the country is all about.

Critical Mass wasn’t created to start problems, it was created to repair them. Taking to the streets once a month serves as a reminder that cyclists have rights and any motorist that supports those rights should have no problem with the momentary inconvenience.
I am very impressed by your turnout, especially with the snow on the ground. You Northerners put us to shame. It’s 70 degrees down here and we wouldn’t have a fifth that many riders.
Kudos.

Thats because people think it will piss people off. People need to be pissed off because frankly I’m tired of being pissed on.

One big note-
I enjoy riding with everyone in these events.
Kudos! to everyone there.
secondly,
IF you know of something that is against state/city code/law, SPEAK UP! A large part of critical mass is to educate each other as well as exercise our rights.

I am all for critical mass. Sure, it may be an inconvenience for motorists when done in such a fashion, but it is only once a month and definitely creates awareness.
Let’s ride on!
