I rode the Feline Races Saturday on my new KHS Flite 100 and I’ve been riding it ever since with a big dorky smile on my face. Now having been a wrench since 1995, there aren’t many things that get me excited, but this bike has done it. I spend more time riding circles around the shop and practicing my track stands than actually working, just don’t tell Keller. I feel like a teenager with a new girlfriend who I just can’t keep my hands off of. I guess all those women I dated were right, I do love my bikes more than them.
This is a break through for me. I usually only get hopped up on adrenaline when I get a new top of the line bike that no one else can afford, or that I have just finished building after spending more money than I want to admit. But this bike is different, it is simple, inexpensive, b e a utiful, and slick, what else can I want?
As I mentioned in my previous post, I put my Phil Wood wheels on and swapped out the cranks. The only other change I plan on making is installing a Chris King headset. If it’s worth riding, it’s worth a King. Everything that is on the bike works flawlessly, but this is about the frame not the shit I’ve put on it.
The Reynolds 520 frame with traditional track geometry rides smooth, smooth like a 12 year old Bourbon. The frame is stiff enough for the sprints and skidding is cake thanks to the track angles. Of course, the qualities of steel are felt while pounding on rough pavement which brings us back to smooth.
I would recommend this bike to my own grandmother and that says a lot cause she still rides any morning that there isn’t snow, and she likes a smooth ride.
Peace. Love. and Revolution.
